How To Guide For: Knowing When It's Time To Sell Your Stock

When you are new to trading you start off by obtaining and being able to read basic quotes using a ticker symbol. You also want to make sure that you are up to date on the major market indices like S&P 500, Dow Jones, Nasdaq 100 and Nasdaq Composite just to name a few. You will need to make sure you understand the different order types. As a new trader when it comes to buying and selling stock you will want to apply the buy and hold strategy. The buy and hold strategy is a passive investment strategy in which an investor buys stocks and holds them for a long period of time, regardless of fluctuations in the market. I tend to hold onto to my stock for ever, never selling. But if you're a new trader wanting to sell, when is the right time to sell your stock. According to Warren Buffett buy and hold is the best strategy. "The money is made in investments by investing," Buffett said in a recent interview with CNBC, "and by owning good companies for long periods of time. If they buy good companies, buy them over time, they're going to do fine 10, 20, 30 years from now." Great advice. But there are certain occasions when you need to sell outperforming stocks for various reasons. You just need to develop a method that works for you.
