In order to dispute an inaccuracy on your credit report you need to send a letter by certified mail, “return receipt requested,” so you can document what the credit reporting company received. Then you should keep copies of your dispute letter and enclosures. After the credit report company receives the letter they must investigate the items in question and this is done usually within 30 days.
