There are a few major reasons why a credit increase is needed one of the reasons is that you want to make a large purchase that is beyond the current credit limit you have. Maybe you were laid off and need something in the meantime to help pay bills and other expenditures you may have. An increase in credit limit is also needed in case of emergencies like your boiler breaks down, your car needs to be repaired, leaks and other emergencies that come up. So now that we know why someone might need a credit increase, how can a person go about getting the increase in credit. For starters you might want to just wait for the automatic increase offer. Credit card issuers from time to time review customer accounts to see if the customer is eligible for a credit increase. This usually happens with credit card accounts that have rather low credit limits. Waiting for the automatic offer means that you don't have to do anything. Another way that you can get an increase in credit limit is just by asking the credit card company. But you want to make sure that when you speak to the credit issuer you can make your case of why you need a higher credit limit and is now the right time for a credit increase. You also want to make sure that you don't ask for too much too soon. These are just some ways that you can increase your credit limit. The most important thing to do before you even pick up the phone and ask for a credit increase you want to check your credit report which you can get at Annual Credit Report. For each credit card that you have you should review the credit line and how much of it you use every month. This is called your credit utilization ratio. The less of it you use, the better it is for your credit score.
